Maintaining Ideal Weight Throughout Pregnancy

One of the banes in being pregnant is not only the weight your baby growth is causing. Your pregnant body tends to put on weight as well. But it’s mostly something that comes with the stage of expectancy. You can see pregnant women losing their chin over the extra flesh around their neck. You can also see once-slim arms and legs thickening and fingers rounding.
If you are at your first trimester, this is something you might not think happening to you; not while you have difficulties keeping your food down. The first thing you might want to do after you past through this stage is to eat all that you missed eating in your first trimester. But with all the talk of eating for two, you have to stop a while and think. Pregnant or not, being fat is not comfortable. It is best to keep an ideal weight while pregnant. This action will help you get a semblance of your former weight and make you feel good after you gave birth. This can also keep you healthy and lessen the risk of hypertension, gestational diabetes and other complications in relation to being overweight while pregnant.
So, how do you maintain an ideal weight while pregnant?
Change empty calories into nutritional ones. Choose your food. Instead of donuts, try wheat bread. It is best to have your physician help you with how much calorie you need too. If you have the craving to eat just about anything all the time, it is best to eat something that will make you really feel full. Eating small meals frequently (six meals a day) will also help you with the cravings and not eat a large amount of meal. Eat your meal well but not too much. If you are pregnant, it is not advisable to lose weight. That is why you are still advised to eat good meals. But be sure you measure what you eat and keep it moderate. Too much at everything is not healthy. It is best to order some low fat food like broiled chicken (breast preferably), some sandwich and lettuce if you have to eat outside. Try avoiding too much salt in your food as well.
Next, you have to stay active. Pregnancy does not mean you sit or lie the whole day unless specified by your OB. You need to walk or pre-natal yoga if you are into it. Get into safe and proven exercises for pregnant women as such would keep your weight normal. It also prepares you for the stage of birthing.
Don’t forget to keep tab of your weight. If you see you are gaining too much too soon, then you better switch your food intake to a nutritious food and cut off some sugar and no junk. Keeping tab will alert you if you are eating too much or if you are not eating the right food. This will be more effective if you know how much weight gain you are supposed to have each month as you progress in your pregnancy. This way you can compare if your weight is at the right track or gaining too much.
Of course, weight gain during pregnancy is unavoidable. It is also healthy to eat as long as you are eating healthy food. You don’t even need to stop yourself from eating fried chicken or fatty food. Just cut a portion of it and maintain the amount of food you eat. This is healthy both for you and your unborn child.
